چکیده

We study the strategic behavior of two countries facing transboundary pollution under a differential game setting. In our model, the reduction of both pollution and CO2 concentration occur through the creation of pollution sinks, rather than through the adoption of cleaner technologies. To our knowledge, this is the first formal attempt to model carbon capture and storage. Furthermore, we provide the explicit short-run dynamics for this game with symmetric open-loop and a special Markovian Nash strategies. Furthermore, we analyze and compare these strategies and the games’ steady states along some balanced growth paths. Our results ∗We appreciate enormously the valuable discussion in the early stage of this work with Raouf Boucekkine, Herbert Dawid and Ingmar Schumacher. But of course, all mistakes and errors are ours. †CREA, Université du Luxembourg, 162A, avenue de la Faencerie L-1511 Luxembourg. E-mail: [email protected]. Carbon Leakage: The Role of Sequential Policy Setting

We analyze non-cooperative environmental policy when the only strategic interaction between countries is through bilateral transboundary pollution, i.e., countries are closed or small open economies. When countries set pollution taxes simultaneously, there is no carbon leakage. However, in the sequential-move game, the leader sets its pollution tax lower than the marginal damage from own pollut...

The 8th Meeting on Game Theory and Practice Dedicated to Global and International Issues

This paper surveys three areas of applications of dynamic games: (i) transboundary pollution, (ii) exploitation of transboundary resources, and (iii) problems of the developing world: capital flights, foreign aid, war and peace. A refresher section introduces the basic ideas and solution techniques in differential games.

Modeling and Computation of Transboundary Industrial Pollution with Emission Permits Trading by Stochastic Differential Game

Transboundary industrial pollution requires international actions to control its formation and effects. In this paper, we present a stochastic differential game to model the transboundary industrial pollution problems with emission permits trading. More generally, the process of emission permits price is assumed to be stochastic and to follow a geometric Brownian motion (GBM). We make use of st...

Carbon Dioxide Capture on Metal-organic Frameworks with Amide-decorated Pores

CO2 is the main greenhouse gas emitted from the combustion of fossil fuels and is considered a threat in the context of global warming. Carbon capture and storage (CCS) schemes embody a group of technologies for the capture of CO2 from power plants, followed by compression, transport, and permanent storage. Key advances in recent years include the further development of ne...

Non-differentiability of Payoff Functions and Non-uniqueness of Nash Equilibria

Given non-degenerate intervals X of R and an increasing ordered mapping Φ : X × · · · ×X → R , games in strategic form between N players with the X as action sets with the following three properties are studied: the set of Nash equilibria E is convex, Φ is constant on E and in each Nash equilibrium at least one payoff function is not partially differentiable w.r.t. its own action. The results a...
